    DefaultEar thickness

ok...I know this is a strange observation...We have 3 Labs and all 3 have varying degrees of thickness in their ears.
Emma, our field bred, has paper thin ears...they are cold all winter long when she comes in from the outside they take a good hour to warm up.
Aidan has thick, pork chop ears, of course, as he could
And little Ruby, our youngest, has the thickest ears of all 3.

/end of weird observation Feel free to mock and ridicule

Really? I've never noticed this. It's not the hair that's thicker, it's the actual ear?

It is the actual meat on the ears...for sure. And there is a really big difference in my 3.

Abby's are twice the thickness of Max's and Max's are extremely soft. I tried to use a digital caliper, but that ain't happening

Hmmm, got to check Jake and Charlotte ... Jake is the thinner of the two, his are also softer. Charlotte's feels like the cartilage in the pinna is thicker. Weird!

I had never thought about this until Emma was in hospital in August and and the vet tech asked if it was normal for her ears to be that thick, because some labs had very thin ears. I said ithey had always been that way. So her ears are thick and very soft.

I think Gracie's seem thicker to me than my old lab. Gracie has very warm, sort ears...like velvet, but it seems like the cartilage of her ears is thicker than Casey's was.

Susan, that is not all weird. I've notice that between Lexi & other dogs we've encountered. Lexi seems to be middle of the road on how thick her ears are, but they are quite soft.

An old neighbor of mine had a pure bred show line black lab (sweet Brenna) & she has really thick exceptionally soft ears.

Checked my boys - Diesel, my fieldy chocolate - has the thinner of the 2. Blaise, bench line black, has thicker ears - but I would not call them "thick". They seem normal to me. Not nearly as thick as my Shepherd's ears were.
