Will my new puppy take down my curtains? Should I take them down for preventive measures or test the waters? Worries that he'll take the rod down on top of him.

When Zoe was a puppy, I watched her like a hawk. At one point during her puppyhood, I had her on leash so that I could step on it if need be. If your puppy does show interest in the curtains, begin teaching "leave it" and redirect and treat when he leaves it. You will need to be vigilant.

Can you perhaps tie them up a bit to begin w/and then gradually lower them?

    Have fun w/your new puppy

if she's out, and you're not around, everything is bait.

I was thinking of tying them up halfway so he can't get them...

yes this. You have to watch them, and they are FAST! If he does get into something you don't want him to, be calm, and calmly redirect. If you get excited, so will he.

Crate train so he has somewhere safe to be when you are not around.

Your new pup should be supervised at all times. When you can't do that crate him/her. You can also put it on a leash and tie the leash to your waist. My Nellie was not trustworthy until she was two and a half. She was crated until two when I left home and then she was baby gated in the kitchen for another 6 months. She was a terror. Labs like to chew and when they are bored they will get into real trouble.

Only if you let her. Everyone here gave great advice. Kai was never interested in my curtains when he was a pup, but each dog is different and you never know what will catch their fancy. Like others have said, always supervise and if you can't put pup in the crate.

Bean didn't bother with my curtains until one day, he spied a loose thread. I don't have long curtains anymore. They seem to love strings, threads, tags.

Sophie took a grab at mine a time or two. I told her to leave it, she was then off to other "fish to fry"...If you tie them up, the pup will jump to get them. Some pups think something up in the air is an open invitation to jump! And they can jump high! It would probably work for a little while, but they grow so fast! The rule of thumb is, watch the puppy like a hawk! Just about the time I would think my house was Sophie proof, she'd pop up with something! Labbies are a joy and a handfull!
