DefaultOn our way to Pennys first Vet visit...

Fingers crossed that she gets a clean bill of health. She had some runny poop yesterday and her energy level had dropped off a bit compared to day 1. Day 3 here and her poop is looking normal again and she is a ball of energy, good sign! I really am looking forward to getting her outside, away from the backyard. This vaccination regimen can't come soon enough!

Are there any specific things I should inquire about that I may be overlooking when visiting the vet today? I will be taking all her paperwork and meds she has for her deworming..

Has she had any shots or well check by the breeder's vet? Take those records if so too. Also if they chipped her, he may want to verify it's working.
The vet will likely want you to take a fecal sample in since regular dewormers won't catch coccidia and giardia.

I'm going to carry her in a small Vari-Kennel...she is real "chewy" and my fingers have had enough chewing for a while. She is chipped, good idea on verifying that it's working. Have the stool sample in hand already, well, not really in my hand...

Ok, so Penny did really well today. Everyone seemed to love her, the vet tech was a Chocolate Lab owner as well and knew ALL about their chewing habits. Everything checked out ok except for...wait for it. . .ear mites, she has some ear mites and the Doc let us take a look at them beneath the microscope. There was only 1 mite in the sample, looks just like a tick! She hasn't been having any signs of itchiness or irritation with her ears, and actually her ears looked OK looking at them. He had his instrument in her right ear and noticed excessive wax, thats when he swabbed it and pulled out a bunch of "dirt".

He gave her a treatment of "Revolution", it goes on her scruff as a gel and protects against mites and fleas for up to a month. He also gave us ear drops called "Tresaderm", we have to apply it to each ear twice a day for 1 week. I will be calling the breeder to let her know about the mites.

The stool sample will be checked and they will be calling us tomorrow with the results

She had a DHLP-P shot along with a treatment for deworming called "RW". We will be taking her back in 4 weeks for another DHLP-P shot if I understood it all correctly. All said and done, the Doc said she looked good and healthy.

Sounds like a good visit, minus the ear mites. None of my dogs have ever had ear mites, I am not sure how common they are. How much did that little sweetie weigh?

Hoping the stool test comes back normal, and the mites disappear.

Take lots and lots of pics (and post them!). they grow so quickly. And back the pics up too. I lost tons of puppy pics when my computer crashed.
