    DefaultQUESTION

    Hello everyone

What are your thoughts on this breeder? Questions I should ask when I get in touch regarding chocolate pups?

    BUCK MOUNTAIN LABRADORS

    THANKS

They are just beautiful dogs. The other breeder we were looking at was index <- Link to Eagertrieve Labs

The dad of Zoeys litter is actually from Eagertrieve... neat!

It's a really hard site to manuever through because it's a blog and not a website. The dogs look nice enough, but I couldn't find any pedigrees (maybe they're there, but I couldn't find them. Again, because eveything is on one "page", it's hard to see what all dogs they have. It does look like they do proper testing on they're dogs, so that's a good sign. Also - looks like they only have chocolate and yellow - which isn't that great if you are breeding for chocolate - gotta have some blacks in there! I think it looks like it's worth a talk to them though- again, the dogs look decent in the photos, and they do testing on them.

They bred their own male "Abe" who is barely a year old on prelims only. He's not old enough for a final eval. He also has no accomplishment of his own that I can find. I would question a breeder who talks about the accomplishments of the lineage of their breeding stock but not THEIR own dog's accomplishment.

If breeding on prelims (the male is only 1 yo) doesn't bother you... it does me.

I miss Abe being only 1 year old - like I said - very hard to meneuver around the site - so NO! This is not a good breeder to get a dog from.

To be clear Brandy, good breeders breed dogs who are adult (over 2 at least), have health and orthopedic clearances done as adults and who have been judged in some competitive environment (field, conformation, obedience, agility) and been found to be exceptional. Only those exceptional dogs should be passing on their genes.

There is more to evaluating a responsible breeder, but if a breeder you are checking out does not do these things, I would look elsewhere.

    Thank you Big Brown Dog!

This is our FIRST Lab. I do not know all of these technical terms that you are all speaking of so thanks Big Brown for putting it into simple words for me!

Sigh, this has not been an easy task

Bruces Mom I didn't get the private message...?
