Just Cappy & Daddy hunted together today. The forecast was for rain, possible thunderstorms, so Carol wussed out on us and Remi kept her company. Cappy and I called it a morning about 8:30 and he posed for a pic with his two ducks inside the blind before we headed back home in the Jeep.
Remi always gets to retrieve one of the ducks if she didn't hunt. I stop somewhere along the 700' driveway and hide one in the grass. She is then brought out, sat at heel, given a line and sent on a blind retrieve to where the bird was hidden. She has to rely on the line that I give her, her willingness to follow revised directions at a distance based on whistle commands, then finally her scenting skills to locate the bird in tall cover. Here she is on one of her "Victory Prances" on the way back to heel.
Then a nice delivery to hand back next to me.
I no sooner take the duck from her than she's up onto the wash station with the other one! Cappy's not real happy about HIS ducks being stolen.
Too sweet, Jim. Love that 'the old boys' did some hunting together while the girls stayed home. Great to see that Remi get her retrieve in, too, even if she didn't hunt.
