    DefaultUGH! Super Scary!

Not sure if you guys remember, but awhile back, my little Sully dog was REALLY sick. He had horrible diarrhea and didn't eat for days. I was worried sick. I just came across this article. I can almost guarantee that's why. Super scary!

I think we had one bag of these at one point. I think I had a coupon for them or they were a gift. UGH! Makes me sick thinking about it. Super glad he survived.

I buy the ones from Costco, should I stop that? Is there a particular brand that you should/shouldn't feed? Or just not at all?

Glad he's OK. My four get dehydrated chicken as treats regularly and haven't had any ill effects.
Mitzi had several on/off bouts of diarrhea, though not as bad as Scully. I finally realized it happened whenever I brought home rotissary chicken which I shared with the dogs. Mitzi was the only one affected, but no more of that chicken for any of us.

I recall this making the rounds a couple of years ago - I tossed out a package of chicken strips I had bought back then and have never bought them again.

Another member posted this news a couple of days ago. I then posted it on facebook. I have had many friends tell me horror stories about these products out of China. I had heard a couple months ago that rawhide coming from China was giving dogs salmonella. I am of the mind that I don't want any foreign made food items for my dogs. Trouble is, do they regulate packaging information on pet foods like the do people food? Can we be sure we aren't getting anything from foreign countries? I just don't think I'll buy any just to be safe.

No, thanks for sharing! I'm going to go in to Costco and ask where they're made...it doesn't say on the bag.

I got this reply today from the makers of the Costco brand Chicken Jerky

    Dear Melissa,

Our CHEWMASTERS chicken strips are produced in China, at a facility that
has been inspected by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA).
Representatives of the CFIA have visited this facility as recently as
January of this year and have approved it. In addition, we have a Swiss
based company, SGS, review the procedures of this factory on an annual
basis and have always ranked this factory very highly. The factory is
certified to HACCP and ISO standards and meets all USDA and FDA
    guidelines.

Costco sends this treat out for testing on a quarterly basis.

There is not now, nor has there ever been, a recall of a CHEWMASTERS pet
    treat.

I personally visit the manufacturing factory on an annual basis and can
attest that this facility has higher standards than most, if not all,
the facilities I've visited in North America.

To date, after extensive chemical and microbial testing, the FDA has not
been able to identify a contaminant or ingredient as the cause of any
illness, or a direct link to chicken jerky.

The safety and health of our four legged customers is our top priority,
and consumers can and should continue to feed CHEWMASTERS chicken strips
with total confidence. If your puppy is just starting this treat, you
should only be giving him/her very small amounts to start. As the dog
gets older and gets bigger, you can increase the amount given.

Please don't hesitate to contact the undersigned if you have any further
    concerns.
