We have been fostering a five year old yellow female for the last week. Tootsie is very sweet, quiet. She prefers to be around women. Last evening we went to the dog park. There were about 10 dogs and 8 people there. She and Buddy went to greet everybody while I cleaned up after Jack by the gate. I heard a yelp and some dog crying and saw Tootsie on three legs holding up her left foot. She continued to cry and whimper. Two of the women folk started to comfort her. I got there and she was still holding up her paw off the ground. I was told Tootsie had been near people and dogs, but not in contact with any of them. I looked at her paw pads, foot, leg, shoulder, and could not find any obvious injury. She tried to put her foot down and then raised it back up right away several times. All the while people are talking to her and petting her and scratching her head. After a couple of minutes she walked on it without hesitation. Shortly after she ran towards the gate and jumped over the fence to visit a new dog and then came back over the fence. Oh she looked gorgeous sailing through the air. No further complaint.
This afternoon we were back at the dog park. One of the women who was there last night was there. Tootsie went to visit with her. Everybody else got busy with their dogs. She stopped paying attention to Tootsie and was deep in conversation on the phone when Tootsie yelped and cried and whimpered and held up her other front paw. As soon as the lady hung up the phone and was paying attention to Tootsie, Tootsie miraculously recovered, put weight on her foot and wiggled and wagged. I did not hear her cry out. The lady told me after Tootsie was running around with the other dogs. It appears Tootsie has discovered how to get what she wants. I want to say manipulative bitch, but she is too cute. We will see what happens the next time we are at the dog park.
Lol,they are very smart!
~It doesn't matter how smart the dog is,it matters how smart the owner is.
That is funny, Andy. I think Tootsie is one smart girl.
