My son's 7 month old female has some bloody discharge. She was spayed at the shelter at the age of 5 months, so I am a bit surprised to see this. Can a UTI cause this as well? The discharge is like bloody mucus. I have always had our females spayed before they went into heat, so I don't even know what that looks like. Of course these things always happen on the weekend when the regular vet is closed.
Sorry to introduce the poor girl like this. But, here is Georgia:
Georgia is a cutie. I agree, these things always seem to occur on the weekends. A UTI or vaginitis can cause bloody discharge in a spayed female. It is best to have a vet check her. Please let us know how she is.
Thanks, Georgie. I will probably go ahead and take her to the weekend vet in the morning.
It sounds like a UTI....are you sure they spayed her? Can you see a scar? Does she seem to be feeling bad? How's her appetite? Temperature? A vet visit is in order. She sure is a cutie!

She does have a scar, and you can feel the little knot under the skin where she was stitched. The first thing that went through my head was "wow! maybe they only cut her and didn't take stuff out!!" LOL
When I first read your post I thought...she's in heat. But not if she was spayed. Hopefully it is something easy to fix. Antibiotics will clear up a UTI quickly. I know you will feel better after a vet checks her. She really is cute.
More than likely it's a UTI. There have been instances of "stump" heats where the vet didn't get all the parts out during a spay, but those are rare.

Took her in and they gave her antibiotics for a UTI. Hopefully that clears it up quickly. Thanks for the replies and good thoughts!
Thanks for letting us know, Elysa. The antibiotics should clear up the UTI quickly. I am sure you feel better knowing what was causing it.
