DefaultPlease, some good JL thoughts for Belle?

She is not doing well right now. While she has been slowing down lately, she would still trot, run and sniffle around on our walks, just a bit slower than usual.

Last night and this morning I had to nudge her to get up, and then she only walked very slowly. Last night though, she did want in the whelping box, when I was sitting in there with Kodi.

This morning, it was harder to get her up, and intially she did not want breakfast, but when I started to hand feed her, she ate with gusto on her own. I gave her a Rimydal this morning, and it may have helped a bit.

Tonight I actually had to lift her up, but then she walked for about 1/2 mile with the rest of the gang. She does not sem to be hurting, but something is not right. She is drinking o.k., and at least peeing...not sure about pooping.

She will be 13 on Tuesday.

    Sigh.....

Poor Belle... It is so hard as they get older. Our Maggie was 12 and often would groan getting up. Then some days, she'd pop right up with no problem at all. We had to start lifting her in the van for about the last year. She still loved her walks, but got to where we didn't need to leash her anymore, she would just walk along with us. She would still take off after a cat tho! Clear up to the end, she was on neighborhood cat patrol! Not our cats, they wouldn't run from her, they'd just look at her like, yeah..right...! When people get old, often their appetite wanes and I think dogs are like this too. I think some days they just don't have much of an appetite. We had Maggie on glucosamine and she was getting around much better the last year. Do you have some tramadol to give her on her bad days? I will keep Belle in my prayers. I know how hard it is on us mamas when our babies get old...

Oh, Belle. Scritches and pats for such a sweet old girl. I hope she's just not feeling too energetic and she's right as rain soon.

Sending good thoughts for Belle. Our Maggie really went down hill the last 6 months of her life, started with not wanting to do the stairs anymore, then not wanting to go for walks, in the mean-time was diagnosed with cushings, Diabetes and LP. We had to put her down 4 weeks ago yesterday (still doesn't seem real) because her rear legs had atropied (basically deteriorated) to the point where she couldn't walk. She made it to 11 years and nearly 4 months. 13 is a super long life for a lab. I know that doesn't comfort you much right now, but enjoy what time you have left with your friend. It goes all too fast.

ya, Belle also is dealing with a partial Laryngeal paralysis, just makes a horrendous gag occaisionally. belle has always been so like a gazelle, springing straight up in the air, and full of life. her appetite has always been first and foremost on the priority list. She did just get up and move though,

Gahhh, I do not want to be making any such decisions with pups on the way.....
