The end results of the 2007 pet food poisoning money wise...
Pet owners receive $12.4 million in melamine case - VIN
The pet owners will recieve a total of 12.4 million dollars. About 1/2 of what each claim was filed for. 13,242 claims were filed for pets that died and 9001 were filed for pets that were sick. 1801 claims were filed for pets that were tested but not sick. and 1200 claim were filed with people that did not state pets health status.
I was the one that kept posting on here in 2007 about the increasing death toll a lot of people back then simley did not believe that there could be over 2500 pets either sick or killed by petfood. Turns out my numbers were way low. Over 25,000 claims have just been paid out. We will never know the exact number of deaths from this one case. One good thing out of this is that petfood companies are now being more careful about where they source their ingredients for thier foods. Vets are now more aware of how to report suspect cases. Owners are now more alert to things and understand dog food a lot more. People are also now more aware that mass produced foods can suffer from contaminants. People are also more aware of recalls and understand there will be more recalls in the future.
Here is to hoping that there will be no more deaths by contaminatedd dog food and an y recalls will be in time..
