DefaultOur 4 week old lab puppy has fleas

    Hi,

We proudly brought a 4 week old lab puppy home yesterday. We are first timers as far as owning a dog is concerned. We have named our pup,Cider.

We noticed that he had a lot of fleas on his body.I picked out most of them, but I am concerned about his health. What is the treatment for fleas for such a small pup?
We have been feeding him pedigree for puppies and other puppy food with milk.Does excess milk cause indigestion in puppies?

Please advise so that we can raise him in the best possible manner

    Thanks!

4 weeks old is MUCH too young to have left the litter! Puppies are just starting to be weaned at that age and the breeder should still have them for 4 more weeks. Was this a rescue situation or did you buy this puppy?

On the flea question - I would try a bath with a puppy shampoo. He's too young for any kind of chemical treatment. You can also comb out the fleas with a flea comb (you can get this at any pet supply store).

editied to add - Cows milk (or any other kind of milk besides the mother dog's milk) is not appropriate food for a puppy. Do not feed dairy products to your puppy.

wow. poor poor puppy, leaving his litter much too early and having fleas (was the litter kept outside?)

get to a vet TODAY keep the puppy in your arms at the vet's.

the puppy does not need milk, wet the kibble with warm water.

You will have your hands full with this puppy - fingers crossed everything works out, definately stick around teh board, you will likely have tons and tons of questions.`

your first priority will be the HEALTH of this puppy which is much at risk. your second priority, keeping health in mind, will be socialization and teaching teh dog to be a dog. He has lost an invaluable learning experience by being taken away from his siblings. once you have the health issues under control you will have to do everything you can to find SAFE places to socialize your dog. You will likely have a very hard time training "no bite" as the pupy won't have learne bite inhibition.

bring back the dog to the "breeder" and call him an asshat for being a stupid moron. Then you get online and read and get a better bred dog that wasn't born in a backyard.
