    DefaultMy Jeter has hives

Good Morning everyone! I am new to this forum but I have a question. I have a 1 1/2 year full breed yellow lab. He woke up this morning with hives and was wondering if anyone has experience with this? I have read that you can give a dog Benadryl? Cant get him to vet until Monday but he does not seem bothered by them. His coat is all bumpy. Any suggestions?? Thank you all.

    Hi - Welcome!

Yes you can give him Benedryl 25mg per pound twice a day. However, if that is not effective you can go up to 50mg per pound.

Your vet does not have Saturday hours?

I never knew you could give that amount of Benadryl. Hope he is better soon and welcome!

Are you SURE this is correct? That means she would be giving 50 tabs to her dog! Isn't it 25mg per 100lbs? I give Forrest two tabs 2X a day (he is 90lbs) to keep the nosebleeds under control.

    I think it's 1mg per pound. I give Zoe 1 or 2 25mg tabs, and she is about 70#.

Sorry - I just searched what was posted prior on a similar thread and agreed to by a number of other posters who gave Benedryl to their dog. Must be 1 mg per pound.

That sounds more likely. I used to give Ozzy 2 caplets at a time and he was 100 lbs.
