Baxter has been going to Novice Obedience classes for 5 weeks now. He is very good in class, and does eveything very nicely - I have been so proud of him (and relieved). Yesterday he was a little more rambunctous than usual, but OK - there are 2 rings and in the ring next to us (no show gate) a dog was doing retrieve over jumps. We were heeling and then we stopped and were supposed to have our dogs stay while we continued to walk around the ring. We were right by the other ring, and I even said "I don't know what he will do if they throw the dumbell in the next ring. Well - what he did was take off after the dumbell, causing the Wheaten Terrior whose dumbell it was to go after him, which caused the Wheaten Terrioer in our ring to run over and join in the fray. I know the owners of the Wheatens, and they were frantically trying to get the dogs apart. I got Baxter's leash and collar and was hauling him off, afraid that the terriors could really inflict some damage on him. I realized that Baxter was still thinking it was all a game at this point, but the other dogs were really growling and sounding viscious. I hauled Baxter off, and Wheatens owners got them under control. I apologized later about Baxter's behavior, and found out that the 2 female Wheatens live together, and hate each other and the owners have spent hundreds of dollars on injuries that they have imparted on each other. So, Baxter started a fight, and didn't even realize what he had done. No more off leash for him yet! I'm glad everything turned out OK , and I'm glad that I don't have 2 dogs at home who hate each other.
At least Baxter didn't get hurt. I imagine it would be very hard to have two dogs who hate each other in the same house.
I couldn't imagine how miserable it must be to have 2 dogs that hate each other in the same house.
Glad Baxter escaped without injury!!
Poor Baxter ! Couldn't resist the dumbell !
