Yesterday morning he threw up just a few times and was acting perfectly ok besides that, but I thought something was weird because he was not throwing up any food, just yucky foam. Brought him immediately to the vet. Sure enough, an obstruction!! SOMEHOW he ate a rock that was stuck in his small intestines. I cannot figure out how because he is never, ever outside on his own and I keep a hawk's eye on him. He had surgery yesterday morning and was still in ICU as of 10pm last night when I called to check up on him. They said he was starting to chew on his IV tube, so had to put the collar of shame on him. One good bit of news is that the surgeon was able to gently move the rock along his intestines and eventually "out" without having to cut into his intestines.
He might come home today but they say most likely tomorrow. I am told about a 2 week recovery of being kept VERY quiet. He is 4 month lab puppy...I am sure sedatives must be involved!

Lucky escape ! Well done for being so quick to go to the vet.
Poor Chester! Glad the surgery went well and good luck with keeping him quiet for 2 weeks!! Does that mean he will be crated most of the time? I didn that with Bentley and he went insane and it was only for a week!

Wow, that is scary! Good for you knowing something wasn't right with your babe & getting him in asap! Yes, good luck on keeping a 4mth old Lab quiet...for 2 whole weeks!!! Glad he is ok!
Glad he is o.k.! Hoss was my rock eater in his younger days, I always lived in fear of an obstruction!

Thank goodness you were vigilant! I'm glad he's fine and that the vets didn't have to open his intestines. Good luck with keeping him quiet!
