Thursday marked Maddox's one month anniversary in his new home. He now goes by Maddie, MadDog, MushMush, Gus (?), and regular Maddox. He is an absolutely life changing joy. My husband had never owned a dog as an adult, and he is in loooooove. His resolve to have dog free furniture crumbled after approximately 12 hours. Maddox is obedient, has good manners, and is kind of a dope. He can lose his ball when it's six inches away, and will kick it in the process of searching but not notice. He's off leash all of the time in our yard, but never wanders far and always prances back when we call. My biggest concern was how he would respond to the various livestock surrounding us, including chickens who wander in to our yard. He doesn't notice. He has had chickens, rabbits and chipmunks within chasing range dozens of times and seems to not even see them. He is great with kids and strangers, and very rarely barks. He has stopped barking when Hubby and I get home, and only has a greeting bark for visitors. His stamina has also vastly improved. This poor guy was loved but ignored in his last home...he never got out for walks or any real playing. Although we don't take him for many "walks", he gets several outings of fetch daily and runs his little butt off. When he first arrived, he would be completely zonked after 15 minutes of intense fetch. Last night we played for an hour and he was loving it. He also loves the hose, especially on hot days. I put it on the mist setting and he will happily dance under it wiggling his butt. He also sits still when he needs a full hose-off after a romp in the mud. So in conclusion....we love this beast and are so glad that he came in to our lives. Now for some pictures! (not the highest quality, apologies)

What a sweet face! How old is maddox?
Maddox turned 5 on June 29th...although mentally I'd place him at about one year. He's got that eternal puppy lab thing going on.
Maddox sure is cute!
Now that is a heartwarming, uplifting post. Maddox sounds like a wonderful dog, and I bet you are the best thing that's happened to him in a long while.
