Paid market value for a lab in northern central Florida... Have had him for 1 week. Have not seen him run at all. Seems disinterested in EVERYTHING. Even drinks from his water bowl lying down. Is this expected or am I just impatient?
Just because you paid "market value" for your dog will not MAKE him hyper. My grnadpaas rottweiler was the same way and once she turned 6 months she was a rocket. Enjoy it while it lasts.
~It doesn't matter how smart the dog is,it matters how smart the owner is.
What the hell is 'market value' for a Lab, and has it occurred to you that it is hotter than blazes out these past few weeks not to mention you live in Florida? What are you hoping your puppy to do? Be a crazed, hyper, spazz? Sorry, but your post sounds really ignorant and unempathetic towards a baby creature that just left everything it's ever known and has to adjust to you and your lifestyle.
you go run around in this heat and you'd drink lying down too. if you're that disappointed do the dog a favor and return it to the breeder

That's very normal for a puppy, my Roxy has been with us for almost a month and the first couple of weeks she cried and slept a lot. It was normal she left behind her mom, siblings and the family (breeder) that raised her. She is 18 weeks now and oh boy, she has so much energy, she runs inside the house, and plays a lot. Do the puppy a favor and give extra Love and lots of patience, very soon it will be running and adjusting to the new family.
Have you read up at all on what to expect out of your puppy? Talk to the breeder, if they even gave you a number to call.

Wait.......let me do it for ya......
Hey Mary Jane are you a dumbass or what?????
I have to say, I am shocked! Market value!?? You've had a BABY for 1 week and he isn't running around and jumping through hoops for you? I don't know if you realize how your posts sound, but it sounds to us like you lack any empathy at all for a 3 month old that just lost everything he has known for his entire life. After only 1 week, he still still learning about his new environment and trying to figure out what is expected of him. Since he is 12 weeks, he probably really misses his family. It seems like you need to show him love. My lab runs when she feels like it. She will take spells of running and playing in the back yard, but often just lays and observes or suns herself. She sleeps alot and even fell asleep with her face in her bowl yesterday. You need to remember your pup is a baby. If you don't have the patience, maybe you should take him back. Also, dogs give back what they are given. You need to love him unconditionally and stop spouting off about what he cost you.
