Three evenings ago we were walking the boys down the lane then I looked behind me to see three dogs. This girl joined our walk and followed us back to the house and bounded inside. The boys were driving her crazy perhaps because she evidently recently had a litter so I put her on the deck where she almost emptied a bowl of water. Other that being thirsty she was in excellent condition so I believe she was just dumped. I fed her and the next morning she was on the front porch having jumped over the baby gate that keeps my boys in the back yard.
I have never seen this Lab in our remote area but I went around asking neighbors if they knew her, no luck.
I took her to the area Vet for a chip scan, again no luck. The Vet's office gave me the name of a new private shelter that is essentially a no-kill facility. Right now I couldn't keep her as we will be traveling so I dropped her off at the shelter along with a $100 donation and I instructed them to give me a call if no one came for her in two weeks. I have also posted flyers around the area.
I suspect we will foster her if the shelter doesn't find her a good home. It just breaks my heart that someone would not have the guts to find her a home as she is so sweet and obedient. The shelter estimated that she was about two years old.
I guess this comes with country living so it probably won't be the last that one shows up at our door.
For some reason I am having trouble inserting the photo so click on this link to see this pretty girl.
Duke and Freckles at their country home
Awww. She's pretty.
I hope she finds her way back home (or to a good forever home).
People sure can be bastards. Thank you for taking care of her.
Here she is. Pretty girl! Hope she was either lost and reunited with her owners or finds a home soon.
I would really like to believe that her owners are in a panic looking for their sweet labbie and will be overjoyed when they find her at the shelter.......
Oh my. She is pretty. Hope somebody goes and gets her. If not, I'm sure you'll make an excellent foster parent.
Did she have the collar on when she showed up? I hope she was just lost and her owners find her soon!
