DefaultDo you suppose they recognize their own breed??

When Coco and Daisy meet another dog, there is always some "hesitation" at first till all the butt sniffing and posturing is over.

BUT when they meet another LAB, it's like they've known them all their life and everyone is INSTANTLY friends!

    What's THAT about?
It's a tough life.....but someone has to do it.

I asked our behaviorist the same thing years ago. She said yes.

Sure seems that way. Zoe seems to "know" labs.

    WOW!!
Glad to hear I'm not the only one to make the observation!

I was just FLOORED at how Daisy and Coco warmed right up to my FIL's lab, and my SIL's lab, but other dogs, they got to get their sniff on and check each other out good first!

Tessa ignores Labs. She isn't afraid, or aggressive..They just aren't there.
She plays with Gemma, but not Ernie and at the dog park there are lots of dogs including Labs who want her to play. Nope..Runs around with other dogs and once they have gone goes back to mooching around beside me ignoring the Labs.

    Odd.

Our Mick recognized not just other Labs, but also Goldens and Rotts. They were all breeds he grew up playing with that we babysat. Besides other Labs, Caleb recognizes Cavalier King Charles Spaniels. We have one in Rally that he absolutely loves. He gets all excited any time he sees a Cav.

Mine definitely recognize other labs, and know that they can act all goofy with them and the other lab will repsond in kind. They also tend to "like" other larger breeds before they like small dogs.

Ain't that the truth! Nobody understands the way a Lab plays like another Lab.
