Titus is now 10 weeks and 3 days old. At 7 weeks 5 days he weighed in at 11 lbs. Today, 3 weeks later, he is 20 .5 lbs. He has grown so much is 3 weeks! He has gained 3 lbs a week! He is very healthy BUT there is a question about the fur on his back. About 2 weeks ago the fur on the top of his back..started getting more corse and darker. I first I thought, maybe adult hair comming in..but hes to young. Then the patch got bigger..almost felt like someone spilt some pop or something on him. Now its all down his back and to his tail. Ill try to get a pic and post it. Its corse, and almost...wirey? kinda like a Cheasapeke Bay . Since Titus is my first Lab, I dont know if this is normal...but I dont think it is. The vet said it could be an allergy.. but really didnt know. She is not our normal vet, she was just helping out today, but she wasnt very helpful at all with my questions concerning his fur. Is it Normal for a labs coat to be like that??
It's his topcoat coming in.
His other fur is his undercoat/puppy fuzz. Labs have double coats. Softer, fluffier fuzz underneath, coarser fur on top.
Titus is growing his double coat.
Thank You javasmom! I was worried there was something wrong with him. I know it sounds silly to worry about something like his coat..Guess im just a worry wart..lol
Normal. The vet thought that it was allergy related? That's weird.
Sharon, Blaise and Diesel.
Your not taking him to Bangor are you?
No, Amy not to Bangor. We go to vet med. We started there years ago because Dr. Davies is very informed in Great Dane care, and was a wonderful vet for our Danes. Although Dr. Davies is now gone, a new young woman vet is there, and I like her alot. At our first visit with Titus she was wonderful and knowlegable. The Vet we seen Friday was an older woman vet, who told me to put my dog on purina puppy chow and that dogs need some fillers in their food.... I was NOT impressed with her at all and will make sure that we do not see her again.
I just had to check... When we leave the dogs with my mom that is part of the instructions... no matter what they don't go there.
Trusting your vet is huge! I'm glad you have someone you like.
