    DefaultIntense Shedding

Hey guys I was wondering if anyone out there can help me out with Shedding? Beckham has been shedding like crazy lately. It's like every time he sheds it snows with all that yellow fur going everywhere. Any suggestions please would be useful.

Brush, brush, brush, and brush again! If you can, use the vacuum attachment.

Well, labs don't come with the "h/e" (high efficiency) sticker on them. You brush, they blow. You brush some more, they blow some more. It's just part of lab life. Don't let the stray furs in your fridge or bathroom medicine chest throw you off... that's just part of it.

Keep brushing. Keep coping. And BREATHE! It's okay!

People have said the Zoom Groom works well, so I ordered one today. I'm covered in black fur lately.

I take my chocolate girls swimming every day and it seems to help pull most of the loose fur off of them...so minimal shedding going on here.

Thanks for all the advice... this is my second summer with Beckham and he sheds all year but summer is insane haha. Is the heavy shedding a summer thing or is that my just my buddy's favorite time of the year.

There will be certain times that shedding is worse than others. Bauer blows coat twice a year (usually spring and fall). As long as nothing else has changed, it is just annoying; but nothing to worry about. Bauer once went through an intense shedding in the middle of the winter, but we had changed his food and it was related to that. We switched his food again, and all was good. In my experience, yellows do shed worse (or it is just more noticeable) than blacks or chocolates.

Elvis blows his coat mostly in the fall. That was a big surprise to me (last fall was the first fall I'd had him). I had a yellow lab growing up and he never shed nearly as much as my black lab does. I read somewhere that black labs shed more than yellows and chocolates, but I'm wondering if their dark hair is just more noticeable, so it looks like more. Last fall, I had to vacuum the house every day and wound up emptying the vacuum 3-4 times every time I vacuumed the 8x11 rug in the living room. He does shed constantly, though. I took him to the pool tonight and was shocked at the layer of black hair floating on the surface after we were done. lol Oops! I can get a grocery bag full of hair out of him at any given time. When his hair starts looking clumpy around his rump, I know he's past due for a brushing. The best solution is to brush several times a week, if not daily. Swimming helps too.
