    DefaultUh, Ducks?

Our pool attracts several mallard ducks. Baby Girl would see them and let out a warning, or we would see the ducks and say "Go get the ducks." and Baby Girl would be all alert and race after the ducks as they flew away. Jack would come along as back up. Baby Girl is gone, but the ducks are not.

Last week when Clemson the 14 month old was here I let the dogs out on the deck, and as they milled about I heard a quack and saw the ducks in the pool, and said Get the ducks and Clemson, Buddy and Jack did a great impression of the Keystone Cops.

Yesterday Buddy was sprawled out in front of the deck door and Jack was snoozing on the couch, facing the window. I happened to glance out the glass and saw ducks swimming in the pool. I said " Hey Buddy! Get the ducks!" Buddy rolled upright and gave me this quizzical look of "Ducks. Ducks? What about ducks?" Jack just opened his eye"Yeah OK. Ducks. I opened the door and Buddy ran out the door for the pool. Ducks. Gotta find Du... Just as they took off. "Oh. DUCKS. Right"

This morning let Jack and Buddy out by the pool and Buddy saw the duck and went running for it. Duck flew away unscathedbut Buddy got what he was to do when ducks were around the pool.

This evening I started telling Wife about the progress Buddy was making. Buddy climbed up into my lap and laid down head on my knee looking out the door at the pool. Wife opened the door and was standing on the deck looking at the pool. Silly me. I was relating the story of this morning and said "then I said, Buddy, go get the du..." and he sprang from my lap digging his hind legs into my lap, raced out to the pool and did two laps around it looking for the ducks. Serves me right I guess. But at least now he knows.

Sounds like Buddy is a duck dog. Also a fast learner. So...any scratches on your legs when he headed for the pool?

OMG.. that is a cute story! They amaze us at every turn, sometimes we swear they are dumber than rocks & other times, they really do get it. Sounds like Buddy has got it when it comes to ducks.

My Lexi is that way with squirrels, compliments of Grandpa. My dad calls her to the backdoor, starts with "git the squirrels" & by the time he opens the door, she is practically vibrating with excitment. She races off the back step into the yard after the squirrels.

    My pretty girl, Lexi!
