    DefaultBarking

How often should a lab bark? My eight month old Layla very rarely barks. Is this normal? Is there a barking stage?

count your blessings! Some are noisy some are not. My older Lab learned to bark due to the fact that we had a recreational barker Dutch Shepherd here when we got him. I'd be thrilled to have a dog who rarely barked.

LOL Why do you want her to bark? I taught Diesel "speak" so he barks when I say speak. The only time he barks on his own is when he hears a weird noise, something spooks him, or if another dog barks first without their owner bothering to correct them, then he will chime in. Otherwise he's pretty quiet.

There is nothing wrong with her, if she doesn't bark it just means she has nothing to say or protest to! Be thankful you don't have a yappy dog!

I am definitely thankful. My wife and I thought it was odd that it took us so long to notice.

The first time I heard Diesel bark, I think we both were shocked.

My older lab never barked either...we were quite surprised at how vocal the puppy was....my older lab is now a bit more vocal since the puppy arriving...maybe the pup taught him how to use his voice I guess

Java rarely barks. She will only bark if she sees an animal, like deer or turkeys, in our yard or if someone pulls into our driveway.
Moka barks a little bit more, out of excitement, when we get home, but she's a talker anyways...she woo-woos all the time.

Oh God enjoy that silence!!! My sweet Emma barked once in a while outside but never inside. I think she was 3 years before I even heard her barking. Nikki on the other hand barks quite much.

Enjoy it and take it all in. Bentley never shuts up! I have threatened to get rid of him if he doesn't quite barking. Tank is quiter unless he see's a dog, person, rabbit ect. by our property.

Apollo doesn't bark unless....we're at dock dogs!! He's a FREAK about barking there- he doesn't shut up when we're waiting our turn! It's like, "I'm so excited I'm gonna burst if you don't let me jump Ma!", barking
