Jack has been making unusual sounds for several months. Not very often at first, but there has been a steady increase and frequency.
The pool was out of commission from November to April 10. Last night Jack was making this sudden inhale like eep noise followed by hacking which went on throughout the night. Labs are so stoic. This morning he was all bright eye, wagging his tail, interested in eating and moving about punctuated by these eep/hack episodes.
We were at the Vet's waiting for them to open. Jack was seen by his regular vet, and vet tech pretty quickly who both saw and heard the episodes. Temp was normal, the vet did hear some abnormal sounds, but said he had never heard a dog do what Jack is doing. He had X-rays taken of the lungs and neck.
Comparing the new x-rays w/ ones taken last year show more mineral dots in the lung. The vet thinks he sees inflammation in the bronchial area of the lungs. He took more x-rays of the neck and did not find anything that looked abnormal. Nothing conclusive. Larynx looked good, no injuries. He is sending the pix out for consultation
and interpretation. Should hear back Monday.
I hope it's normal old dog stuff Andy.

The vet just called back. specialist does not see any major problems. Most of it is old dog stuff. There may be some infection around the larynx, maybe even some paralysis of the larynx, or some bronchial infection. Vet wants to partial sedate him and look at how the larynx is operating. So no tumors or other major problems. If there is damage to the larynx the vet wants to perform surgery to repair it.
I'm glad it isn't what I thought & your vet says no tumors or other major issues. Sending good thoughts while you figure this all out.
And thanks for the update, I was wondering how your boy was doing today.
Praying that everything is okay.

As Laura said, I hope it's just old dog stuff too. Give him a soft nuzzle from me, won't you?

Good thoughts that it is nothing to serious.
~It doesn't matter how smart the dog is,it matters how smart the owner is.
