Today, my lab was outside with me. All of a sudden he came at me full force and body slammed me. Why did he do this? What can I do to correct this behavior? He hasn't done this since he was a puppy. Ben is now almost 3 y.o.
It was a mistake. Labradors don't look where they are going.
I wish it was that simple. His actions were intentional. He looked at me and CHARGED into a full body slam.
They don't know how strong they are. They can be trained to not do that if you can get the idea across. When you see him charging toward you, before he gets there, you say in a loud, low, stern voice "Don't you push me!" or whatever words to convey the idea, but use the same line consistently. Also try dominant body language as he runs toward you.
I'm sure it was just horseplay (Labplay?). Sounds like he was having an episode of butt-head-itis.
Sharon, Blaise and Diesel.
sounds like he hasnt learned the nice way to say "play with me"
BJ will run at me too and I bend over a little bit, put my hand out and say "Brakes" and he either stops or veers to the side.

Dio got me good once. He was running full tilt, slammed into me and I flew through the air and landed on my hip. OUCH! I now do what was suggested by Blackjack. When I see him coming, I bend my knees and put my hands out and say in a stern voice: Not though me! He hasn't done it since. Honestly, I'm not even sure if he saw me that day. It may have been that his brain had shut off for a sec. All I know is, damn it hurt!
