    QuestionEating grass?

I've heard so many different reasons why dogs eat grass...

Digestive issues, to make themselves vomit, to get other minerals or nutrients they are missing...

Diesel's been eating grass like crazy the past week. He ate grass last year too, perhaps because it's been so long since we've had grass I don't recall him eating this much. But of course, within an hour or so after eating the grass, he woofs his cookies.

Anyone have a theory for why dogs eat grass? Should I be concerned? Is there anything I should supplement his diet with that he may be trying to tell me he needs?

They eat grass to combat nausea.

It's how I could tell if Lucy was handling the chemo all right, and it's how I knew when to give her cerenia. If I caught her eating grass, it was time to give her the good drugs and after she got the good drugs, the grass eating stopped.

More than likely, he's getting something in his system that disagrees with him. Does he get into the trash or does anyone feed him table scraps maybe?

HK eats grass in the spring. New fresh blades of grass. I always thought it was a bad tummy and they ate it to promote vomit. But watching HK, only in the spring with new fresh grass. I think there is something they like.

Yes. I'm sure the reasons vary. If Bella has an upset stomach, she will eat grass voraciously and is not too picky about what she's eating. Throughout the year, she'll eat some grass very casually, just a few nibbles and she's good; but this time of year especially, she'll eat grass like it's a delicacy - carefully selected the fresh tender blades and obviously relishing it.

Especially with dew or rain on it. Dinozzo will be strolling along and snatch the odd blade or three. Reminds me of horses.

Saba turns into a labracow in the spring too. I think he just likes it - he never vomits.

My 3 girls love the fresh grass in the spring too.... and they especially love the taller, untouched grass around the fence posts or mailbox. They are starting to show a little less interest in it already... I think it was just a fresh, new springtime thing.

My girls love the spring grass too. Molly is the worst & if she eats too much of those long shards of grass, she vomits. I asked my vet about why they eat grass, she said "because they like it." I also have labracows.
