On the way home from this morning's hunt, a large male yellow Lab ran out onto the highway in front of us a few miles North of Ivanhoe, TX on FM 273. We stopped, got out and I was able to coax him to me. He was very scared but still had a wagging tail tucked between his legs. Once He realized I "spoke dawg" he was happy as could be, came to me with hand and face licks and eagerly jumped into the front seat of the Jeep.
Carol rode the 3 miles back home in the back with our two dawgs. This poor boy appears to be between 2-3 years old, and although healthy appearing, he's VERY thin and has many barbed wire knicks on his back, one side and two legs. He probably has been missing for several weeks or more, I'm guessing. He has a collar but no nameplate or tags. He's neutered but still has dew claws. He "smiles" when you greet him after being alone for awhile, sits on command and will even "shake hands" for a treat.
We'll try local posting of "Found" signs and have already contacted the Fannin County missing pet site. I;ve also posted this and pics on several duck hunting sites frequented by North Texas hunters. But in case any of you know of some heart sick hunter and/or family missing a nice male yellar dawg, contact me at the number below. We can keep him here safe and fed but not for too long.
Aww poor boy! I hope you can find his family soon. You might want to try contacting local vet offices in the area, too.
Hope you find his owner....can you take him tomorrow to the vet or Humane Society and get him scanned maybe he has a chip. I know that was the first thing I did when I got Cinnamon was get her chipped.
Karon and Cinnamon
I'm actually guessing that the dawg was lost during the early Teal season here which ended on 9-28. That kinda coincides with how much weight I think this boy may have lost in a month. I also suspect that it is one belonging to an out-of-area hunter, probably from around Dallas.
BTW ... while he's not mean or overly aggressive, Remi want's nothing to do with him now because he's so starved for canine companionship that he is wayyyyy to pushiy for her liking .... at least so far. And she is THE most gregarious Lab I've ever seen.
Haven't tried Cappy with him yet.
Glad that you found him Jim or maybe found each other ???
Thanks for taking him in. Hopefully you can track down his owner soon...
Awww poor boy. Thanks for doing what you can to help him find his home or a new forever home.
Aw, poor boy. That's heartbreaking. So good of you taking him in and taking care of him.
Good save, Jim.. good save =)
