    DefaultSo tragic and sad...

There is a member on Woody's board whose dog (she has 2 young black labs) bolted out the front door when someone opened it.
He was missing for a few days. She searched everywhere for him, posted flyers, called police, vets, etc.
Some kids found him yesterday in the woods on a 4 wheeler trail.
He had been shot to death.
He was a black lab wearing a BRIGHT ORANGE collar.
I'd love to meet the asshole who shot him and left him there to die. Even if it was an accident-leaving him in the woods to die alone is inexcusable.

    RIP Petey.

This is so very sad. But let's hope Petey's death has meaning by showing how dangerous it is to have a lab who bolts when the door is opened.

Very sad indeed. I didn't want to reply on the other board but my gut instinct was telling me this: The owner said their male had been whining alot and figured there was a girl in season somewhere nearby (he was due to be neutered). In many parts of the country, it is legally justifiable to shoot any dog threatening another's property--- property includes livestock, or perhaps in this case, a girl in season. It doesn't take much for a person to snap if they've dealt w/ stray dogs in the past. I'm not saying it's right, but our own ACOs have told several of us who have had problems in the past to shoot (to kill) any dog that is a menace since they don't have enough personel to follow up on those kinds of calls.
