    DefaultGross question....

I notice lately when I bring Tiller in the house that where he sits he leaves skid marks. Any other dogs do this? It is really grossing me out. He isn't scooting his butt at all, he just sits and when he gets up there are skid marks. Does he just not take good enough care of cleaning himself?

Maybe his anal glands need expressed. Have you noticed if the 'skid marks' carry a foul odor? If so I think a trip to the vet for butt glands is in order.

No, no smell and he doesn't try to express his glands. His stool is also not loose. I could be more anal (pun intended) now with having a crawling baby and the fact that he is crawling in dog poop grosses me out. I wiped his butt earlier and there was poop residue (gross again).

Mine do that sometimes - it's where they scoot on their butt. Sometimes it means anal glands, or worms, but I think that maybe a little poop gets stuck, and lacking toilet paper and hands, they use what is availble for a nice scratch!

With having dogs, you end up doing stuff you wouldn't imagine...

I actually check my dogs' butts out after they poop, looking for any that might have stuck or hung on. Between eating grass, getting hair (theirs and mine) off the floor, it does happen that tiny piece of poo doesn't fall off. If I don't happen to notice outside on the walk where I can use a leaf or tissue to clean it off, the offending dog will come in and plant his butt down and do a little "wipe". It's not a long scoot, just a very upright sit and a little baby scootch.

Truth be told, sometimes you just HAVE to wipe their butts.

I check butts and wipe too.

Still, it happens now and then, so I just clean the rug. When the rug gets too nasty I throw it out and get a new one.

I would love to have my entire house to have tile floors, but that would be too cold on my feet

I have wiped on occaision...but mostly when I know they have had runny poo, or I see some grass dangling. Otherwise, they've never left poo marks on the floor.
