Dog people -- the JL people -- 'get it.' Whereas colleagues and other friends are sympathetic to a point and then move on, there is understanding here that some days are good and some days are not so good. That sometimes I want to laugh about some silly thing that Wesley used to do. And other days I just replay and replay and replay his final moments and let the tears crawl down my cheeks.
It's a view that is probably born of the fact that every single dog owner someday faces that same pain and emptiness.

FWIW -- Wesley was rather a ladies man. As an intact male, other males made him a little dominant, but his heart went pitty-pat for a cutie pie of the opposite sex. I could definitely see him giving Em a friendly nudge. Inviting her for a swim. Sharing a bone. Making room for her on his cloud-bed......
