    Defaultit's gotta be the smell

My two boys are addicted to bananas. We have one of those banana 'trees' that we hang the bunch of bananas on. The minute you start to peel one, they are standing there looking at you expectantly, drool string forming on Champ and a puddle under Buddy's chin. Of course, they each get about 1" from the ends.

Last night I tried an experiment. Both boys were in their beds in the living room. From the kitchen I could just see the back of Buddy's butt; Champ was at the opposite end of the room, furthest from the dining room and kitchen. I had been doing dishes and preparing things for dinner today and neither of them had so much as blinked.

Oh-so-slowly, I lifted a banana and pulled it off the bunch, not making a sound. I turned and lifted my foot to take a step, banana in hand, when both boys bolted up out of their beds and ran to the kitchen!

Now, either there is some scent released to the air when a banana is pulled from the stem, or else there is a higher-than-human-hearing-can-detect scream emitted from said banana, that alerts the boys to the fact that a bit of their favorite fruit is in the offing.

I'm thinking it's the smell, but who knows?

Ha! That's so funny The same thing happens with peanut butter in my house. Diesel is sound asleep, TV blaring, I gingerly open the jar of peanut butter as soon as I put the spoon in the jar I sense him behind me & sure enough he is right there, puddle of drool already in place. It's amazing! It's gotta be the aroma either that or they get a gut feeling something is happening that they would want to be a part of, so strong it wakes them from a deep slumber.

That's funny. Mine could be snoring away but let me open any type of food in a bag & they are by my side in an instant.

LOL Glad to know Caleb is in good company. The rabbit goes nuts when he smells a banana, too.

I always buy the longest bananas because they always get three inches. (Duke doesn't like fruit)

Exact same thing happens here with Hershey Kisses. I have eventried cutting a banana off the bunch with a very sharp knife, zero sound. And I could hear her jump off the couch in the family room and come running to the klitchen.

Its not a time of day thing. This happened in the middle of the afternoon, not my typical grab a banana time.
