Brand new tennis ball. A dozen throws. Thirteenth throw, ball scudders down into the abyss of the Hole to China. Devoted Mother gets another new ball, begins anew. Good long session ensues, black dogs are then called inside, Seamus toting the 2nd new ball into the house.
Seamus immediately returns to outdoors. Devoted Mother wonders what is up with that. "What is up with that?", she asks herself as she watches from the family's kitchen window. Mother retreats to her computer room to la-de-dah around her lab board. She returns to the kitchen window once to espy her over-so-focused black boy, Seamus, digging and pawing at the Hole to China and resting with a tilted head to ponder the situation.
Ten minutes later, the large black lab silently appears by Mother's side at the computer. A muffled *thunk* draws her attention to the floor at her left side, the lab's eyes clearly begging praise.
Seamus had, indeed, conquered The Hole, recovered the errant tennis ball and saved it from its abysmal journey into never-never-land.
He was quite proud and the devoted Mother delivered a chicken liver cookie to him.

C. Tennis ball in the hole
Actually, it was more along the lines of the Highlights Magazine "find the unlike object" exercise.
What would you find in a Hole to China? A rice bowl? Some chopsticks? A small American-named automobile? Children's toys? NOT a Wilson tennisball.
