    DefaultGracie's sick

I am posting here because it gets seen more. Gracie has had diarrhea for a few days now. Not very bad, but she is not going normal. I took a stool sample to the vet today, it came back negative. Tonight she jumped up and ran to the door, she looked like she had to poop but only little dribbles came out. Calling the vet first thing in the morning. She is playing, going for her walks and full of energy as usual. she is not vomiting at all, but I am getting worried. Any ideas what could be wrong? If she ate something that caused a blockage would this happen.

If she had a blockage, she wouldn't go at all (at least if it was completely blocked). You would also see a rapid decline in how she felt, she would refuse food and eventually water.

What was her stool tested for?

Giardia doesn't always show up on a standard fecal flotation test. There is an antigen test (I believe that's what it's called), and it's a little more expensive (I paid about $90), but it is more accurate.

Angus had giardia when he was a puppy, but it didn't really seem to affect his mood or his appetite. Just had soft stools. Panacur clears it right up.

As long as she is still eating, walking, playing, drinking and pooping I wouldn't get too worried too quickly. Maybe you could give her a tsp. of canned pumpkin and see if that firmed her stool up? (Plain canned pumpkin as you would use to make pie, no sugar, etc. Usually found around baking section in grocery).

One other thing: If she's had diarrhea for a couple of days, it may have really cleaned her system out and I would think it would not be too unusual if you didn't see a poopie for a day or so.
