There really isn't a word to describe the 2009 DockDogs National Championships. It was almost overwhelming…4 docks and pools going simultaneously, barking everywhere, little tent cities all over the place, kids with dogs, adults with dogs, people cheering continuously, dogs amped up pulling to get back up on the docks. I truly feel honored to have my dogs a part of this spectacular event.
Now, for the results. Spud first. He did very good. His best jump was 21'6" which is really good for him. (Anything over 20' for Spud is good.) He didn't make the finals, however. The lowest entry in his division finals was 23' 1". That's how good all these dogs were.
Sally's jumping was in a terrible slump. Actually, she's been on a slide downward for the last 3 or 4 events, and it bottomed out this weekend. Her best jump was only 17'10" which is about 2 feet down from what she usually does. Her other jumps were only about 15-16'.
Her Speed Retrieve runs which are usually 6.8 – 7.2 seconds were over 8 seconds. And she never snagged an EV bumper at all. Every single EV jump was a No Score!
But…the good news is that she has no idea she did crappy. She thought she was jumping like the champs. She couldn't have been happier or more excited, and *that* is what's important. I don't care if she jumps 10 feet or 20 feet…8.5 seconds or 6.5 seconds…no EV snag or 5'6"…the bottom line is that she's doing what she loves.
And no, Hoppy didn't jump. This event was only for titled dogs and since Hoppy hasn't jumped even once, he obviously doesn't have a title!
We don’t have any pics of Spud because Sally and I were jumping continually. I actually never even saw any of his jumps. But here are some of Sally's pics.
A Big Air jump. Look at her drool/foam/slobber. She is soooo amped up!
Looks like they both had fun and, as you said, that's what counts!
Jackie, Champ, and Buddy
It does look like she had fun, and she got the cool award! Did Hoppy and Badger stay home?
Debi and Bauer
Some people are like slinkies. Not really good for much, but bring a smile to your face when pushed down the stairs.
Some awesome photos. It looks like you guys are having a blast! Enjoy yourselves
But at this event there was no down time. Poor Hoppy and Badger just laid in their crates all by themselves almost the entire time. I really felt sorry for them.
This was a learning experience for us and we learned that championships are just for jumpers! Next time, the non-jumpers will stay at doggie daycare and have a blast themselves.
Sally & Spud are champions in my book! As are Hoppy and Badger
