Hi everyone. Well, its been just over a month since we rescued Boomer from the shelter (a loooooong month, lol). We are really starting to feel like we are making some great progress with him. I first posted here on JL b/c we were having trouble with Boomer lunging and jumping at us. I'm VERY happy and surprised to tell you that he doesn't do that anymore! He has figured out quickly that if he wants to play with us, he has to follow our rules or the fun ends. He hates when the fun ends (witnessed by the temper tantrums in crate) so he tries really hard to be good. He's on week 3 of his obedience training and I have to tell you that he's the smartest dog in his class! We usually go twice a week and so far, the trainer (who is also a behaviorist) isn't charging me b/c Boomer is a rescue. I was having some leash reactivity issues towards other dogs but we are working hard on that using counter conditioning methods (HV treats) so I can see huge improvements there too. He behaves soooo well at the dog park and loves meeting new furry friends. Things are not all roses and sunshine but we definitely have far more good days than bad. And finally, something just really clicked over the weekend with Boomer and our family. All of a sudden, he just felt like he belonged, you know? He wasn't a burden, or a problem I was trying to fix--but he was part of our family. Very cool moment when I realized that Here are a few pictures of Boomer! And the last pic is one of my 7.5yo son walking Boomer while we were hiking over the weekend. It was such an incredible feeling to see the two of them bond.
Thanks again for the support you all shared with me.
Jennifer, you have made amazing progress in a month. I'm very impressed and so happy to hear it! Keep up the good work, and stick arond JL!

Wow, what a great story. KUDOS to you for taking in Boomer and working with him to be all the good dog he can be. Sounds like Boomer is truly home at last.
