Rusty really likes to hunt with Carol and is beginning to respond to her handling well. She's really proud of that Doodle Dawg!

Awwww. Thank you for showing us that there can be the best of both worlds for a "designer dog". He's a pretty great pup.

Mom to Indy 6/12/98 to 11/16/11 (always in my heart), and Jobe 8-14-2000 to 6/24/2013 (Working TDI) English Labs, and Annie our Golden Retriever (TDI), and Kodiak (who will one day hopefully be a TDI dog if he doesn't kill me first).

I have a really dumb newby question?? Do you eat the geese and ducks that you hunt? I have never actually known anyone that hunted fowl before and am curious?

Howdy neighbor! Boyd is 93 miles from Ivanhoe (as the duck flys) and in TX that's just a short piece down the road.

We eat less than 15% of the waterfowl that we harvest. The majority are given to guests who hunt with us, neighbors and two local area churches who are only too happy to have them for needy members of their congregations. In fact some of them call or come to the house to see if we have any extras and when we are hunting again.

Hey!!! I didn't realize you were so close to me! Hi there That is exactly what I was wondering, actually. How much you ate vs how much you give away. That is incredibly cool, you get to hunt with your dogs and your community reaps the benefit of it as well. Very very cool indeed. I may have to try and come see the whole hunting process sometime. As I said, I have never in my life had the opportunity to be around it. Evidently Milo is from a kennel that does all hunting and the hunt trial things, but the closest this boy will get with this momma is his stuffed duck I launch for him in the front yard, haha.

As long as he has a quality home and life, Milo is a very lucky boy. However, it's always a bit sad for me to see a well bred field Lab relegated to pet status. It's much like having an adopted child where the parents and grandparents are world class athletes and the child is not allowed to play sports. That's not a criticism, just a personal observation.
