Saba has been limping for a while. He"s had the odd limp for about a year - only a couple of times when he ran too much. The vet did a good checkup just in case but everything seemed fine. In the past few months the limping increased but again, only after some major exercise and it always went away by the next day. Few days ago Saba did some major running and ever since then the limp has not gone away, or I should say, there is no limp in the morning and then it shows up again. Unfortunately I can't figure out which leg - I thought it was the rear right leg, but just now we came back from an hour long walk (he was not limping at all this morning nor last night) and towards the end of the walk, his limp was so bad his whole body was going forward. It seemed this time that it was his front leg.
We have an apt. with the vet in 40 minutes. I'm just besides myself, I'm so upset. I hope it's nothing. He's been sleeping / resting a lot too lately. But other than that, he does not appear to be in pain nor is he afraid to put weight on his legs. He stil wants to play and go for walks. I have no idea what this could be but I'm so scared.
UPDATE: My vet is on vacation but there was another female vet looking after the clinic, she seemed very detailed in her assessment and I got a good vibe from her. She asked a lot of questions, checked him out and then manipulated each of Saba's leg and got him to walk after each. She noticed it was his rear right leg as he started to limp after she moved it around. She did not feel anything wrong with her hands nor while she was manipulating it, so we need xrays. I'm dropping him off tomorrow morning so they can put him under sedation to do xrays of both his hips and legs. She said most likely it's the beginning of arthritis (he's only 5....) but we'll decide on the course of action and long term treatment tomorrow once she gets a look at his xrays. I'll pick him up at 1 pm and that's when we'll discuss the results. My poor pooch... I hope it's something that we can easily treat. I have to read up on labs with arthritis just in case, as I don't have much knowledge of it.
