Payton is a pet, BYB, (before I knew any better)etc. That being said, DH and I enjoy taking her on a pheasant hunt a few times a year, more for the fun of walking through the woods than a real passion for hunting and pheasant aren't real plentiful in Wisconsin.
BUT....Thursday was THE day. The stars aligned just right and Payton and DH teamed up together to bag their first pheasant. What fun it was to watch her bury her head in a tangle of tall and grass in an excited fashion and out flushes a pheasant hen!!!! Good girl, Payton. The pheasant flew straight away. Dan was patient 'til he got a good shot, and success!! And then Payton was succeessful in finding the downed bird. No, she did not pick it up and deliver to hand, but it was HER bird, nonetheless. I was so proud of her, doing what her nose and her instincts lead her to do. I love watching dogs "work".
Is this really "MY" bird???
Yes, I is proud.
Payton worn out; sleeping on the gun in the back seat of the truck on the way home.
