All good news. Either some kind of bite (doc could not see any exterior punctures, tho) or some type of allergic reaction. The terrible redness is NOT blood... it's the third eyelid and tissue surrounding the eye itself that is injured or damaged. That's what I was seeing when I thought it was his eye... the third eyelid covering up the eye.
The eye itself is healthy, the pupil responded appropriately to the light test, and there is no bleeding anywhere. CBC absolutely normal ranges, perfect weight (87 pounds, just like always), He's on an antibiotic just in case (doxycycline) and pred for five days. Checkup (if I feel it is warranted) Friday morning.
I would also like to report that Flynn's manners were impeccable. From going out the front door on lead and STRAIGHT to the car (he's a model car rider), general exam, getting weighed, blood draw, IM injection, light test. Oh he was a model of compliance! The blood draw was a lovely moment - he sat, placed his "affectionate paw" on doc's knee and calmly let her do her thing.
And the moment we got home and inside he turned into a wild man again. So he's going to be fine.
Thanks so much for all the good thoughts, you guys.
P.S. All that and the two Rx = $95.00
