DefaultSKIPPYS HOME!!! (but not out of the woods yet)

We went and got Skippy today about 11am. The vet closes at noon on Sat. They have got quite a bit of stuff out of him, but he sill has more in him. However, they weren't going to do anything with him over the weekend, so I brought him home. He is to eat canned dog food with mineral oil on it, and of course I'll be keeping a close watch for any pooping. He smells TERRIBLE! Kind of a mixture of nervous dog, vet clinic and POOP!! We could hardly stand to be in the car with him. I've cleaned him with a doggy cleaning spray that I have, then a listerine/water spritz, then repeated it all. He smells better, but not too sweet yet. Now here is the real kicker - Emilu won't have anything to do with him! She wouldnt' even come over to him when he got out of the car. She looks horribly sad, tail down, ears down, but won't get near him and is now sulking on her bed. So what's with that? I mean just because he smells bad - I still love him!

If he doesn't poop much over the weekend I will be taking him back to the vets again on Monday, but for now, he's home

Glad to hear that he is home and okay. We'll be doing the poopy dance for him for the next couple of days - I hope the canned food helps get things moving!

P.S. I'm just curious - which canned food did they prescribe?

It was Science Diet - of course - that's all vets have. I thought I would have to buy food, but they had it all bagged up. I guess 6 cans can't hurt him - I'm sure they just want him to have the moisture of canned food.

It is probably low fiber so low refusage...you don't want to add any more bulk to what he already has in there. You might try walking him to stimulate the system...I know it works with horses.

Glad he is home ...I wonder if he would feel better if he has a bath to get rid of the smell.

Hope he does so much pooping, he won't need to go back to the vet.

Have you considered taking him to OSU's CollVetMed Teaching Hospital?

I'm glad he's home. I hope he starts pooping normal soon.

Poor guy! He must feel miserable. I hope the canned food and mineral oil helps. I'm also snickering about your Science Diet comment (that's all vets have) because that has been my experience, too. What's with that, I wonder!

(As an aside, I did actually take a S/D blend home with me once when I was trying to get a few pounds off Meg. It did work and she liked it, so, so, so and so.)
