Theo has been limping for two weeks. I have no idea what caused it. But he's definitely been favoring his right shoulder, not wanting to walk down stairs, etc. It's not terribly serious, because he still has a lot of energy and we have really had to hold him back, with nothing but short leash walks. But it's still worrying.
It wasn't improving, so I took him in to the vet. They took X-rays, said everything looked great, and suggested that it was probably bursitis or tendinitis from retrieving. They gave him a Metacam injection and sent us home with a week of Metacam.
WELL. It's like my middle-aged dog was replaced with a puppy. He is bouncing off the walls, he feels so great. This morning I walked him through our park and decided that it would be OK for him to walk through the baseball field off-leash, because it's been so long and he's so desperate to have a good roll in the grass. There was another dog there, one we've seen before. The owner indicated it was OK for him to say hi, so I let him off the leash. He barreled up to her, and they sniffed excitedly, and then something happened (I still am not sure what) and she went medieval on his ass, snarling and biting. (And when I say "ass," I mean it literally. She took a little chunk out of his butt, although I didn't find it until after we got home.)
The owner was shocked, as was I, and we checked him over really carefully and he seemed fine. (Actually the dumbass wanted to go back up to her.) The woman apologized profusely, and unless she was lying about her dog's behavior I think it was just an unfortunate thing, so I'm not upset about it.
We're home now and he's snoozing on the bed.
"Labrapals, I am having the CRAPPIEST. WEEK. EVER."
"Maybe I'll just . . . zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz."
You need to post pictures of that beautiful boy WAY more often!
Glad the meds had such a grand effect on him. Deramaxx used to have that effect on Paddy.
(Sorry to hear about the altercation in the park but you're probably right... just one of those things.)
Snooooooze on, dear boy!

Oh Theo ! I've been bitten in the bum by a bitch too ! I feel your pain buddy !
Wow! I'm glad the Metacam helped! Sorry about the unfortunate incident with the other dog, was the other dog on leash? I know some dogs freak out if they are on leash and the other isn't.
Hugs and scratches for poor Theo!
Awww, poor Theo, it has been a rough week for you. I think some cookies maybe in order.....
Poor Theo. Hope things improve for you buddy.
Poor Theo. Kiss that boy for me.
