    DefaultRetraining Seamus

Well this should be an interesting lesson in retraining. Seamus is so quick with my verbals and picks up on a simple tone of voice. I could angrily say to Flynn, "Glick! Gabu dat zinderseed PLUTZ!" and Seamus would know it means "out of the kitchen". (I have know idea what I just wrote for *words* - I made them up.)

I had made great progress with Flynn on "out of the kitchen" by placing my hands on his sides and leading him to the family room while saying those words. We got to the stage where I could give the "ACH", snap my fingers, point... "out of the kitchen" and out he would go.

Or would TRY to go. But Seamus has begun this horrendous barking at him the moment Flynn has finished his meal. Snarly barking and throwing his flank into Flynn's face. Then planting himself in the doorway, blocking Flynn from going "out of the kitchen".

Flynn is perplexed! I am perplexed! I know that Shea is trying to help carry out the rule but he's getting it all wrong! In fact, he's getting it all backward. Flynn tries to comply but Shea is preventing him from doing so.

Suggestions? It's getting a little too rowdy at meal time here.

WHOA! First trial this evening! Moments ago!
Darwin was late for dinner... Seamus at my feet in computer room.
Dar comes in, I put his bowl down.
Seamus stays by computer, Flynn follows me to kitchen.
And Flynn got the "out of the kitchen" command SPOT ON! No mussing, no fussing, just obedient!

My idea, too. Let Seamus know that YOU are telling Flynn what to do and he is not to interfere.

I agree with Nancy and Jackie. YOU tell Seamus to lay off by telling him to down stay.

Yes. This morning I had Seamus leave the room first and sit/stay. Then I told Flynn to go out. It worked well. I'll be their coach until they both "get it" on their own.

    Thanks, all!

Seamus is like Bruno who sees himself as my enforcer. Whenever Judy doesn't come to my call, he runs back and does the LOUD annoying bark in her face.
I too have the "out of the kitchen " command just for Judy.
