Well, well, well.....such an exciting couple of months for Guthrie! The end of July we met up with Deanna and Apple(who is from the same breeder) at his breeder's house. What an incredible day. I learned SOOO much and I got a glimpse of Guthrie's potential.

I had pretty much giving up doing stuff because of some reactive dog issues he was having....turns out most of those issues were created by me! I was holding this guy back in a BIG way.
One thing was clear....Guthrie wants a job. He wants to hunt! I saw a side of my dog that I never knew existed. He has DRIVE! At the breeders house he was beside himself retrieving bumpers....sometimes trying to get two at a time. He had no interest in playing with the other dogs...he was focused on only one thing.....Bumpers.

The end of August we did Dock Diving and got to meet up with LExi's mom Deb and Aiden and Ruby and Emma's mom Susan. Emma came along and did awesome dock diving too! What a GREAT time!!! Thanks to Deb for taking this awesome picture!
The next day we met up with Deanna and Apple at a hunting Retriever club. I was literally blown away. Guthrie has never really retrieved anything on land so I didn't know what to expect when we started with field retrieves. But He hunted up a bumper thrown 150 yards out in cover and brought it right back to me!! He didn't miss a beat in water either.
Then off to the cranberry bogs to train the next weekend...he did a re-entry retrieve the first time out. He impressed EVERYONE because they said lots of novice dogs can't do this.
And then two weekends ago his first live ducks. He looked like he had been doing it all his life. Several people told me I should enter him in the hunt test that was taking place the this past weekend. He was that good! No pictures from this session because of the rain.
Last weekend I attended my first hunt test and had the most amazing time. Met so many nice people and AMAZING dogs including the most adorable puppy in the whole wide world...this Irish Water Spaniel "Buzz".
I have no doubt Guthrie could have passed but was glad to get a chance to watch and learn. Besides...I don't even have a duck call or a whistle yet! Guthrie is prepared but I'm not!
And this weekend the president of the club invited us to participate in the New Jersey Wild Outdoor Expo Hunting dog retrieving demos. So many different activities going on and it is free to the public. They are even going to have the wolves from the disney movie there....and you can get your picture taken with them. New Jersey Wild Outdoor Expo 9/25-26/10
Keeping my fingers crossed that my gundogsupply delivery gets here in time....I need that whistle!

Congrats! Fun stuff!!
Way to go Guthrie! I'm glad you live where you can take advantage of these activities. It sounds like Guthrie will really do well at this.
