Diesel is housebroken but still crated when I leave the house because he's still learning his manners & sometimes at night when I need a really good sleep because he moves around so much & hasn't quite figured out that lights out means it's time for sleeping not playing!!
So the other night I went out with some friends. Diesel was laying by my feet as I was putting on the war paint & glanced up at me like "you're going out aren't you?". Before crating him I said, "I would love to give you the run of the house but not for this long buddy, sorry." With that he gets up all mopey & saunters to his crate without being asked to go to his "house". What a good boy!!
He gets his hugs & kisses & cookies, I lock the crate door.
About 5 hours later, I come home. As I unlock the door & push it open, I notice some resistance. Hmm. That's odd. I push a little more then suddenly this curiously adorable little black snout peeks out from behind the door.
OMG!!! Diesel! How did you get out?! The look on his face was priceless! Showing the whites of his eyes, his tail hanging low but wagging vigorously. I have NO idea how he got out or how long he was out, but am very happy & proud to report that NOTHING was destroyed, nibbled on, missing, peed or pooped on.
What a good boy!!! Guess that was him telling me... "mommy, it's okay, you can trust me y'know!"
LOL Glad he was a good boy!!
I think you subconsciously didn't latch the door to the crate well so you could test him. WTG Diesel!

I'm picturing that whole scenario and giggling to myself. That has happened to me a couple of times -- I then gave in and started to let Aila out of her crate for 1/2 hour at a time and now she roams the house freely when we're at work. I am still diligent about putting things away and decreasing any temptation, but periodically, a slipper might go missing, etc. -- all things that can be replaced easily.
Hope Mommy gave you extra special treats for being such a good boy.

Well done ! Now don't blot your copy book and you MIGHT be free ?
LOL little Houdini is right!
Hahahah that is way to funny. What a houdini is right. I guess he was showing you he was a big boy. Once I forgot to lock one of the crate doors and my pup went and slept on the bed. A few minutes after putting them to bed Chrome, his brother starts barking to alert me that his brother escaped
