    DefaultRusty Graduated!

Today he officially became a "Duck Dawg". Those six months of daily sessions paid off when Carol's "Doodle" proved that his genetics of the Standard Poodle X Labrador Retriever could become an acceptable field performer if given a chance. Remi served as back up retriever for any that were too difficult for 8 month old Rusty. We ended up with three for our season opener, two were retrieved by Rusty.

Good job, Rusty! And, good job, Jim, for doing such a fine job of training Rusty to be a duck dawg!

Hi Paw Rusty! I especially love the one of Rusty and Remi in the boat with their catch.

    WTG.

Is he harder to get cleaned up then Remi and Cappy? I would think with the curly longer fur getting the pond goo out would be harder.

Very cool! Congrats to both of you! Do you know of anyone else using a doodle to hunt?

Actually, and among the amzing things about Doodles with Rusty's "hair" type coat, it's much easier to wash down and dries faster than either of our Lab's coats. The shortcoming is that it has poor insulating qualities so he will be hard pressed to stay warm, even with the 5MM thick neoprene vest he already has.

Not yet. There are a couple in progress at this time that I've been comparing training techniques with, and a few on FB that run their's in Hunt Tests. Rusty seems to really enjoy what he's doing and we think HE THINKS he's the 3rd Lab in our family so why shouldn't he be doing the same things as the other two.

Well .... all three of them are impatiently sitting here waiting for me to finish so we can start loading up for morning hunt number 2. More to follow ...
