Bailey has had a rough weekend. My boyfriend and I took her to his parents house in VA for the weekend. Yesterday she gashed her side on something outside while she was playing with their two dogs. Off to the vet and Bailey had to get stitches and a square of fur shaved.
Now...on Saturday she was rubbing her eye with her paw. Her eye looked fine. Sunday morning she had some discharge. I wiped it with a warm washcloth...her eye looked normal we didn't see anything in it. Last night her eye was very red and she could barely keep that eye open. My boyfriends mom and I flushed her eye with warm water which seemed to help. This morning her eye looks the same as last night...red with some discharge. Could this be pinkeye? What do I do about her eye? Go back to the vet? She is on an antibiotic for infection from the stitches and cut...will this help her eye if there is an infection?
I feel terrible for Bailey and we have a 6 hour car ride home today.
When in doubt, I call the vet's office and describe the problem and they let me know if it's something I can treat at home or if a vet visit is needed. But today you probably will have a tough time getting anyone but an E Vet, 6 hours away from home yet. I would go by how she's acting: if she's extremely stressed about it, I would find an E vet. If she just looks somewhat uncomfortable, wait until tomorrow morning. Did you look under her eye lid (if she lets you) for anything that may be stuck there?
What medication did they put her on, could it be a reaction to the meds?
I agree with Barbara. Check to see if there is anything under her lids. If she seems uncomfortable it may require a trip to the vet. Hope it improves.Sometimes they may need drops for the eye.
Poor Bailey, I hope she's feeling better.
Poor girl - I hope you figure out what's going on with her eye
Thanks for the responses. She is acting fine, you would never think she has stitches or anything wrong with her eye BC her behavior is the same as it always is. She hasn't tried to itch it in a while. Right now she is having a hard time keeping it open...but earlier after cleaning it with warm water the eye looked ok and she was able go keep it open without a problem.
I don't think it's a reaction to the medications BC the eye was bothering her earlier in the weekend.
She won't let me look under her eyelid.
I hope it's ok to wait till tomorrow to call the vet. Of course I am a teacher and tomorrow is the first day of school!
