Took Kona bean to be assessed by the surgical specialist yesterday for her ruptured ACL.
Our appointment wasn't for another 2 weeks, but on Monday she managed to do even more damage so it was critical to get her in asap. I had her on leash at the dog park, turned to poop scoop for not more than 5 seconds and she had taken off chasing quail.
All of a sudden I hear a loud help, and there she is leg up against her body and shaking.
She completely tore her ACL this time, not just partially. And according to the vet there also seems to be some meniscul tearing as well. She's lost muscle mass in that leg and will no longer put any weight on it at all.
So, demanded an earlier appointment with the surgeon and I'm glad we did.
She's booked for Wednesday morning.
So we'll be spending the long weekend getting the house prepped and the crate back out in preparation.
Fun times ahead!

Well, the sooner you get the surgery over with the sooner Kona starts on the road to recovery.
Java's right knee was a complete tear with no meniscus damage. Her left knee was a mess though-her ACL was completely gone with no evidence of it present at all and her meniscus was shredded.
She has recovered beautifully on both knees, although the one with more damage will never be quite as good as the other knee.
What kind of surgery is Kona having?
I'm sure Kona will do great...good luck and please keep us updated!!
And during recovery-hold that leash tightly!!!
Good luck both of you!

Aww lots of thoughts and prayers for a successful surgery and quick healing time for Kona
ooh.. ouch! Kim.. you should had her crated and only out for potty breaks when you knew she had torn it in the first place.. hindsight i guess.. but for anyone else reading this.. for future reference.. the least amount of activity while waiting for surgery, the better!
Kim, let me know if you need any info.. i did a blog for koda's second surgery (i'm still kicking myself for not doing one on her first) but there are several blogs out there that'll take you through day by day and it's really helpful.. good luck!
