Gordy was attacked last night by a pit bull...my 12 yr old son was walking Gordy around the block alone and a loose pit bull attack him. My son was really brave though and was able to wave down some help. Luckily the second car that stopped was a drug officer and she had some powerful mace that she used on the dog. I am guessing Gordy was saved by his huge scruff around his neck because the gal that maced the dog said he had him by the throat. We ended up waiting for animal control and then took him to the vet for stitches. He ended up with staples in his leg and ear. Poor guy is miserable today. Anyway, I am just so thankful my son wasn't hurt. He tried to seperate the dogs mostly by kicking the pit bull. I told him if it ever happens again to just leave the dogs alone and get help...too many people end up getting bit by trying to help. The bad thing is that the owner showed up shortly after it all happened and tried to take the dogs home, there were two pit bulls running together but only one was the aggressor. The drug officer told him he had to wait for police, then the owner claimed the dog wasn't his after all. So we will not get reimbursed for the vet bill that was $200 and I am a little sad the pit bull will be euthanized since the owner won't claim him. And I lost my brand new leash because I gave it to the people to hold the pit bull since he didn't even have a collar on.
But I guess it all worked out okay because my son wasn't hurt.

wow, that must have been so scary for your son !
glad he is OK
I am so glad your son was not hurt, and he was very brave to try and break up the fight. That is a sure way to get bit!
I hope Gordy heals quickly and has no side affects from it.
It is sad that the pit will be euthanized, but if he is an attacker there can be little other end for him. Also that the owner will not take responsibility for his actions

Thank God your son was not attacked! Get better Gordy, you are very brave.
I feel for Pits getting a bad wrap all the time but I do understand some of them are mean and a lot of it has to do with their owners!
OMG how terrifying! I'm so sorry this happened. Hope Gordy has a quick recovery.

How very scary - glad your son is ok
OMG!!! How scary!!! I'm so glad your son didn't get hurt, and God forbid, it could have been so much worse for both.

I am so glad your son is okay and that Gordy will heal. It strikes me as odd that the drug officer would let the owner get by with that though, especially since he at first admitted that the dog was his.
Oh my gosh!! How terrifying. I am so glad your son is OK. How is Gordy? Poor baby.
Please make sure your son knows never to kick, hit or even yell during a dog fight. Per our behaviorist: "This often increases the aggression, as one or both of the dogs will think you are joining in the fight - on their side." But I do fully realize that when something like that happens, you just go on your gut reaction. It's hard not to yell in a situation like this.
Give Gordy big kisses from us. Heal up fast sweetheart!
I'm so glad your son wasn't injured. Good thoughts to Gordy for a speedy recovery.
