DefaultWondering if Buddy can tolerate Advantix now that his liver has been compromised??

We had applied Advantix about a week before Buddy's incident in the drainage ditch, so it's not quite time to reapply it, but I'm worried that he may not be able to handle it now. I don't want to cause any more harm to his liver. He doesn't go back for another blood panel for 2 weeks.

Any advice? Should I use something else instead? Side note: It doesn't seem to be workng as well this year, we are finding ticks every day, some have been attached and large.....

Sorry, no advice. Maybe try contacting your vet and see what they say.

I'd check with the vet too. I can understand your concern.

Personally not something I would do with your dog's medical situation.

Yeah, I don't think it's a good idea either. So, what can we do instead? The ticks are VERY bad here this year! Last year I don't remember even seeing one here in southern MN, but since we go up north so often, we still had some, but this year they seem to be everywhere!

I will ask the vet next week, but in the meantime, those of you who don't use Frontline, Advantix, etc, what DO you use?

    TIA!

I don't think I'd use it if I were you, but I agree to ask the vet. I hate putting that stuff on my dogs anyway. I only use Advantix once in the spring and later in the fall. I don't have many ticks at my house because the turkeys and grouse eat them all. Sometimes we'll find them crawling on one of the dogs after they've been in the woods, but not usually attached.

We used Neem Oil last year. Based on my experience, I think I'd reapply it every day if you're having a bad tick season. It's totally harmless, though, and may be a good option to get you through until you can get things medically straightened out.

We don't have much of a tick problem and don't use anything at all. When we have the dogs in the woods they get a thorough comb out when they come home. I can count on one hand the number of times I have had a tick actually attach.

But - I may check out the Neem oil if it was effective.
