when I'm petting one boy with one hand the other always joins in so I am now petting two boys with two hands.
For you people with three or more dogs, how do you possibly manage?
Duke and Freckles at their country home
use my feet
That's what elbows are for ! I know as I have to stroke cats as well as jealous dogs !
I can kiss one while petting 2 others and the 4th one usually doesn't give a damn (she's old and independent).
With three or more you have to be pretty creative.
Here's how I do it:
One lab on lap (receives left hand petting)
One lab hugging right side (receives right hand petting)
One beagle on back of sofa touching my head
One beagle at right foot, nuzzling on it
One border collie to the right of beagle getting vicarious nuzzling through right foot beagle
One Lhasa Apso at left foot, nuzzling
One cat resting on laptop lab, just beneath my chin
Seamus and Flynn
I only have two but usually Homer likes to push himself between Misha and I steal another hand (he likes both hands, feet, and whatever he can find).
So many times I´m forced to push him away and make him wait for his "massage" session
Since he´s always right by my side and Misha tends to wander off in the yard or entertain herself, he gets probably 30% more one-on-one affection time... he´s a Papa´s Boy!
Luckily, none of my dogs are jealous of any of the others. They will take turns to let me pet them or hold them on my lap without another horning in. I'm free to give full attention to one at a time. Kasa (1990-2002) would never push in for attention either. On the other hand, my first lab, Heidi,(1980-1992) would push in whenever I even looked at the other.
Hey! I just realized - I have an extra foot. Hmmmm...
