    Hi All..
I am new here! My name is Denise. I recently purchased a black lad..after my Golden..of 6 yrs ..died suddenly. Bailey is 6 months old. I have had her for 2 months. She is a great dog...just very hyper! I walk and play with her everyday to try and get some of her energy released. She bites and pulls on our clothes and rips them...anyone have any suggestions on how to calm her down? Please help. I don't want to hit her to disipline her ..any suggestions?

In a rush but please don't even consider the above as even an option - that doesn't 'discipline' a dog, it conditions them to be fearful and handshy

Welcome to the forum. You have come to the right place to ask questions about a Lab as there are years and years of experience here.
My suggestions: Sign up for basic obedience training ASAP. A good trainer will have you working at least twice a day for 15 minutes at a time going through the commands in addition to the weekly training session. Train by rewarding good behavior, not by punishing bad behavior. Ignore any bad behavior by ignoring the dog. As simple as that sounds they hate to be ignored.
Keep up with the exercise, it's good for you and the dog.
Crate train for when you can't supervise the dog. Proper crate training teaches the dog that the crate is it's refuge and safe place and it's not a place of punishment and it will keep him out of trouble, well ALMOST out of trouble. If there's trouble to be found, a Lab will find it.

Thank you all for your advice!! I am going to sign her up for obedience training ASAP!! She is very smart and has learned several tricks already! so I know that the training will help her !
ScorpianAbarth..I woudn't and don't hit her..though I have been told to do that to dicipline her..I know that is not right!
We have a swimming pool and she loves to swim but it seems she has endless energy!
Dukesdad...She is already kennel trained...she won't go in on command just yet..she has to be bribed with a treat...but once in there..she just rests and sleeps..
    Again..thanks for your advice!

    Congrats! Photos please! =)

I agree obedience will help you! They should have some suggestions and get you headed in the right direction. They are usually fun classes too. Have fun with your new addition and welcome to the forum!
